CLEP
What is CLEP?
The College-Level Examination Program®, or CLEP, provides students the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. CLEP examinations measure knowledge of the material usually covered in various classes during the first two years of college. With CLEP a student can earn college credit for what she or he already knows, regardless of where or how that knowledge was acquired.
How is CLEP credit awarded?
Each institution sets its own CLEP policy and determines for which exams credit is awarded, the scores required and how much credit will be granted. Therefore, before you take a CLEP exam, check directly with the college or university you plan to attend to make sure they grant credit for CLEP and review the specifics of their policy.
I earned CLEP credit at my institution but now I plan to transfer schools. What happens to the credit I was awarded?
You will need to check with the school to which you are transferring to determine if they will accept the CLEP credit awarded by the previous school. CLEP credit earned at one school DOES NOT automatically mean that it will be transferred to another school.
Do I have to be a UAH student to take a CLEP test at UAH?
No. UAH offers CLEP testing to students of any institution. Before the test begins, examinees will have the opportunity to select the institution to which CLEP should send the scores.
How long is each CLEP test?
90 minutes
Can I re-take a CLEP test?
Yes, but you must wait 6 months between test dates.
Can I take more than one test per appointment?
No. Please register for only one test at a time.
How much does it cost to take a CLEP test at UAH?
Each computer-based test costs $95: $25 payable to UAH at registration and $70 payable to CLEP on the test day. Payment can only be made with a check or credit card.
What should I bring with me to the testing center?
CLEP examinees must show two forms of identification, one government issued with a photo and signature. The name on the ID must match the name on registration. Examinees will not be permitted to bring food, drink, cell phones, calculators, or any other personal items into the exam room. Lockers are provided if needed. CLEP exams that require a calculator are equipped with a built-in calculator.
