Information for Faculty

Scanning Services Deferred Exams Departmental Exams Placement Tests CLEP

Scanning Services

What is the process an instructor follows when submitting a classroom examination for scanning?
After the test has been administered, instructors can deliver the answer sheets and an answer key to BAB 226 in a test scanning envelope. If after office hours, you may slide the exam under our door for next-day processing. Envelopes can be picked up in BAB 226 and should be saved and used each time a test is delivered.

Where do I obtain answer sheets and is there a charge?
You may pick up blank answer sheets in BAB 226, free of charge. Since we fund this service at no cost to faculty, we ask that you take only as many blank forms as you will need for a semester.

Can I use these forms for other in-class needs?
No, these forms are to be used solely for classroom examinations that you need scanned.

How long does it take to receive my test results?
We guarantee a turn-around time of 48 hours.

How will I know when my test results are ready?
We provide all test results via e-mail to your UAH e-mail address. Once you receive the e-mail, you can stop by at your convenience to retrieve the answer sheets.

Why do I need to pick up my answer sheets if I already received the test results?
Testing Services will not destroy or throw out examinations and we do not have the storage space to keep examinations for faculty campus-wide.
NEW: Beginning Spring 2009, answer sheets not retrieved from Testing Services within two weeks of the scan date will be returned to the Instructor via campus mail. To maintain security and preserve the integrity of your exam, the answer key will be destroyed before mailing.

What reports are included in the test results?
On your test scanning envelope, check off the items you wish to receive. The available reports are as follows:

  • Test Statistics Report- analysis of overall class performance
  • Respondent Statistics Report- one page report that shows performance by all students
  • Frequency Distribution Report- shows the frequency within grade ranges
  • Item Analysis Report- shows the frequency of marked answer choices
  • Grade Report- one page per each student that shows performance and is meant to be handed out to students

CLEP

What is CLEP?
The College-Level Examination Program®, or CLEP, provides students the opportunity to demonstrate college-level achievement through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses. CLEP examinations measure knowledge of the material usually covered in various classes during the first two years of college. With CLEP a student can earn college credit for what she or he already knows, regardless of where or how that knowledge was acquired.

How is CLEP credit awarded?
Each institution sets its own CLEP policy and determines for which exams credit is awarded, the scores required and how much credit will be granted. Therefore, before taking a CLEP exam, students should check directly with the college or university to make sure they grant credit for CLEP and review the specifics of their policy.

What are the UAHuntsville policies regarding CLEP?
UAH awards credit for a limited number of CLEP tests. Click here for information on the CLEP policy at UAH
NOTE: Students who have either been enrolled in a course for more than three weeks or already have a recorded failure for a course may NOT receive CLEP credit for that course.
